The word destruction is a big powerful word but sometimes destruction is caused by something that is anything but large. The Mountain Pine Beetle is responsible for the loss of millions of acres of pines, largely in the Rocky Mountains and black hills. This small beetle bores itself into the bark of the tree leaving a fungus behind that inevitably ends the trees life. That fungus however creates a beautiful coloring in a traditionally bland looking wood. Originating from the forests of Montana this piece was paired with the thin hairpin leg design to represent the delicacy of the tree while still maintaining the required strength of a bench.
